Holiday Running

Thanksgiving is nearly here. If you aren’t out of town, then you no doubt have plans to either be at one of the numerous turkey trots around town or will be joining the Lizard crew for our traditional Thanksgiving trail run through Tryon Creek State Park. It’s not too late to make plans to join us – the group will be meeting at the Nature Center at 8:30am. Just show up and you will no doubt find someone running a similar pace for whatever distance you feel like going.

And since the stores are already playing Christmas music, tree lots are already starting to crop up, and the Christmas shopping rush will kick off as soon as the tryptophans wear off – it’s time to start thinking about the next holiday. And there is no better way to celebrate the Christmas season than our annual Peacock Lane Run. This year, we will be hosting the run on Friday, December 16 at 6pm. Meet at the NE Foot Traffic store (NE Fremont x 41st) – from there we’ll run over through Laurelhurst and down Portland’s famous holiday light street, Peacock Lane. After looping back to the store, it’s time to party! Each year we have a potluck where folks sign up for bringing a beverage, salad, side or dessert. This is the way the holiday season should actually kick off – so resist the urge to head out for Black Friday, and instead join us for the Thanksgiving run in Tryon and then wait until Peacock Lane Friday to launch into the Christmas season.

  2. Do you think a run like this would be kid friendly? I have one that would be in a stroller and one one on a small bike. What the lizard policy on that?

    • No policy, but the route probably isn’t that great for dogs or kids. It crosses some busy roads (Sandy, Burnside, Glisan, 39th) and is dark + quite a few people sharing the sidewalk and street. I’ll track down the route and post it so that folks can see what it looks like and make the call themselves.
