The 2012 TRL Summer Race Series kicked off last week with the Lake Run 12k, and though the turnout was light due to a busy race calendar, that just means the race for bragging rights and a coveted Top Ten running hat is still wide open!
The next race in the series is coming up fast, the Up The Lazy River 10k in West Linn and Lake Oswego on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th. Parts of the course may be familiar to those of you who have run the Red Lizard 5 Miler, since it tours the quiet residential streets of West Linn, including River Road.
Where it differs from the 5 Miler is in the monumental climb up Glenmorrie Lane around the fourth mile. (You’ve been warned!) But if you survive the ascent and the return trip along Hwy. 43, you will be rewarded by the traditional pineapple at the finish, and a chance to compare notes and trash talk with your fellow Lizards in the pleasant confines of Mary S. Young Park.
The race is very well organized by the Oregon Road Runners Club, and rumor has it it is being co-directed by Lizard Marianne Jones, so you know it will be a high-quality event! It costs $20 for ORRC members, or $25 for non-members, and your registration includes an UTLR headband (!) and a finisher’s coffee mug. You can register online HERE or download the race flyer HERE.
So come on out to compete with other Lizards and earn some valuable Summer Series points. The course and the setting are perfect for a spring morning with your clubmates and friends.
