One of Portland’s biggest and oldest races is rapidly approaching. The 2013 Shamrock Run falls precisely on St. Patrick’s Day this year (Sunday, March 17th, for the Holiday challenged among us), so this annual festival of running, costumes, chowder, and beer should be especially lively. It’s also the 35th anniversary edition, so maybe “lively” will be putting it mildly.
If history is any guide, the weather will be anything but mild. If the icy rain hits you at less than a 45 degree angle on Shamrock morning it’s considered a calm day. So prepare to bundle up, and wear an extra “Kiss me, I’m Irish” T-shirt under your singlet. Lizards are a tough breed though, and a little inclement weather doesn’t faze us!
Once again, Team Red Lizard will have a “team” at the Shamrock Run. All this means is that if you register online and select the TRL team, you can save $4.00 on your entry fee. The discount is good on any of the races: 5k, 8k, or 15k. The deadline for team entries is January 31st.
Instructions for team entry:
Sign up HERE, select “Team Option – 15 or more $32.00″, and enter team number 7878. If we reach 25 or more, packets will be available at the Red Lizard tents located near the start on race morning. The tents will also provide welcome shelter for runners and their gear throughout the event.
So sign up, keep training, and prepare to take on Broadway, Terwilliger, and whatever the elements have to offer on St. Patrick’s Day!
