Portland Marathon Pacers Needed

Calling all Lizards with a sense of pace… the Lizard Pace Team needs YOU!

Pacing the Portland Marathon is a long-running (sorry, that pun was too easy) Lizard tradition. And it takes a huge effort to get enough people to fill all of the needed pace slots. With 15 pace groups between 3:00 and 5:00 hour marathon finish times, we aim to have 4 people for each of those groups – 2 for each half. That means we need 60 people to pull this off!

What you need to be able to do is hold a steady pace for 13.1 miles. OK, it is more like 14-15 miles you need to hold it for, since we always have a little overlap between the first and second half pacers just to make sure there is a smooth transition between those with fresh legs just jumping in and the participants who have been making steady progress towards their goal for the first half of the race.

The benefits of pacing? Well, it is one of the few times you actually get to feel like you are helping someone out while doing what we all love to do – run. And all pacers get a cool commemorative shirt that they can wear with pride.

Sound like something you might be interested in being part of? You can get all the details or sign up at this thread on the message board. Or email Tim Swietlik, TRL’s Pacing Director, at imarunr@comcast.net

Portland Marathon is October 5, so get yourself signed up to pace NOW!
