Does Your New Year’s Resolution Include Stumptown?

TRL ladies brought home the 2014 USATF-Oregon state title

By Jacob Buckmaster

With the end of another year, we are again reflecting on the end of another fantastic Stumptown XC series. This was the sixth year TRL has hosted the XC series in Portland and it was our biggest year yet. We broke records for attendance and raised a large amount of money for the club to both sustain our membership priorities and to give away to charity. Above all that, for the first time in club history, the Lizard women brought home the Oregon State XC Championship! Needless to say, it was a great year.

Even though we have not rung in the New Year yet, I can’t help but think about what next year’s XC series will hold for us. I do know this: it does promise to be a big year. In 2015, the Club XC National Championship will, once again, be on the west coast (aka the best coast), down in San Francisco, and TRL will also be hosting the USATF NW Regional Championship as part of the Stumptown series. That means every XC fanatic will be covered in mud and wild eyed for almost three months straight!

This all means another big year for XC in our great city and with the spotlight on TRL, we will need our members to step up to represent the club. That will mean different things for different people. I’m hoping that for many it will mean they will dust off those spikes or pick up a shiny new pair and join us on the muddy battlefield each Saturday. I’m hoping for others it will mean waking up earlier than you would probably like to to help your fellow Lizards provide an amazing service to the running community by volunteering. Lastly, and most importantly, I hope that everyone is taking time to relax this holiday season and is getting the chance to reflect on the year, dreaming of the year to come, and spending lots of time with friends and family.
