Input Needed on 2016 Summer Series

Summer is still a ways off, but the time to start planning your summer running has arrived. One long-running tradition (ok, shorter-running as well, if you want to go with the pun) for the Lizards is the Summer Series.

For the past dozen years or so, the club has selected a range of races in the spring and summer that are scored in this intra-club competition. 8 races has typically been the number of events included, and these have ranged in distance from 5k to half marathon – but there is nothing that says we have to keep the series similar to the past.

And while competition has been part of what motivates some to show up, the true goal of the series is to select a handful of races that Lizards can put on their calendars and plan to participate in. It’s like showing up for a group run – when you up there is an expectation that some of your Lizard pals will be there. So why not pick some races where the same is true – you show up and there is a crew in red waiting to toe the line with you.

So the question is, what motivation do you need to come out to some races this summer? Is it simply making sure we select some fun races that interest you? Is it having a fun post-race food and beverage stop? Is it the fame and glory you get from placing well against your Lizard teammates and trying to earn one of the prizes we have typically awarded the top ten finishers?

If you have ideas about how the Summer Series could be something you would be more apt to participate in, share your thoughts now. You can either post them in this thread on the message board or email them to torrey@redlizardrunning.com

The thread on the message board already has a list of races that might be considered, so if you have other ideas, please share them soon.
