Hectic Week in The Lizard Kingdom

The rain arrived just in time to make Stumptown Cross race #2 feel like fall. And in true October fashion, when it rains it pours – both the actual rain, as well as all of the activities we have going on at the moment.

The coming week might be the busiest week on the Lizard calendar. With the Stumptown Cross race behind us, we still have all the usual activities going on (weekly group runs), plus this weekend is the Portland Marathon. That event is always one of my proudest times to be a Lizard. Pace groups leaders helping runners meet their goals. Aid station volunteers cheering people on toward the finish from mile 24. And both of these efforts take a whole lot of people out on marathon morning.

Marathon Pacers:
If you are pacing, you probably already have plans to be at the pacer meeting on Wednesday night (Oct 5). Be at Ringlers Annex on Burnside before 7:45pm for the meeting where we will go over all of the pacing details for Sunday morning.

And many of the pacers will also be volunteering on Friday and Saturday at the marathon expo to let runners know about the pace groups.

Mile 24 Aid Station:
If you don’t already have a planned location to watch the Portland Marathon on Sunday, Oct 9, you should plan to volunteer at the Lizard aid station. What better way to watch runners go by than having something useful to do at the same time you cheer them towards the finish. If you want to know when you would be needed most, check out the thread on the message board.

First Winter Goose:
This Thursday (Oct 6) marks the change-over from the summer to winter route for the weekly Goose Run. And to mark this special occasion, where we run 1000′ up to the top of Council Crest, there will be FREE BEER at the Goose Hollow Inn for all runners who show up for the run and stick around.

First Friday:
This coming Friday (Oct 7) is the first Friday of October, which means Lizards will gather at the NW Lucky Lab pub for a drink, some food, and some hanging out. While some folks will be helping out at the marathon expo until 7:00 or so, I have no doubt there will still be folks gathering to hang out starting around 7pm.

Cross Country Workout:
Feel like getting a cross country workout in? Coach Rick is planning a Saturday morning (Oct 8th) fartlek workout for anyone wanting a workout. Planned route is around Sellwood Park. Meet at the Oaks Pioneer Church on the east side of the Sellwood Bridge at 8:30.

So there you have it – stuff every day of this week almost. Get yourself out to assist your Lizard pals to make all of these events happen. See you out there!
