Summer Series Finish is in Sight

Based on the streak of warm dry weather, it is safe to say that summer has arrived. Although the Summer Series won’t be here for long – only one more official race left to go, and then there is of course the Strava Segment…

Let’s start with the easy event. Race #8 is the infamous McCubbins Gulch Scramble, which goes down Sunday, August 6. This is a race unlike any of the others in the series, since scrambles are exactly what they sound like – some crashing through the brush that doesn’t necessarily follow any roads or trails. But if you think following ribbons through the woods sounds like fun (which it is) then you might consider joining for this event. Rumor has it this will be the last running of this event, so don’t miss out on your chance to crash through some brush, splash through the creek, and have some serious fun. For event details or to register, check out: www.xdogevents.com/mccubbinsgulch.html

Just a few days after the scramble, August 9, is also the last date to log a time for the Strava Segment. That means there are a few Wednesday night pub runs you could hit this on, or you could make a special trip to Sellwood in the near future. The only things you need to do to log a time for this 9th “race” in the series it to 1) join Strava and 2) run the route from the church to the end of the Oaks Bottom trail. If you click on this it will take you to the map and also give you a chance to sign up: www.strava.com/segments/14665676. Do it today!

And in case you are curious about how the standings currently look, here is a list of men and women who are 1) part of the TRL Strava club and 2) who have run the route this year. I see a few names on the list I don’t recognize, but that is because there are some folks who have joined the TRL club on Strava that aren’t necessarily members. Don’t worry, I will sort through folks once we get to August 9 to make sure we just have Lizards in the final standings.

And the final thing to mention is that we will be holding the annual Summer Sizzler on Sunday, September 17. The event will kick off at 2pm and will be held on the deck at the Lindbo house. More details will be posted soon, but this event is all about BBQ, fun, prizes for Summer Series winners, and thinking ahead to the start of Stumptown Cross (which kicks off Sat, Sept 30) – so make sure you have that date on your calendar.

  1. NOTE: Due to the hot weather this week, we are going to extend the deadline for logging a time on the Strava Segment. The final day to log a time on the segment near Oaks Bottom will now be August 16 – so you have a few more Buffalo Gap runs and weekends to squeeze this in.
