Every 2 years, Team Red Lizard has an election for the 4 officer positions on the board – President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. For the March 2022 elections, we have candidates willing to run for each of those positions. The following are the statements they submitted for members to consider before casting their ballots.
President – Garland Days
Hello TRL Members! My name is Garland Days, and I’m running for TRL President. I first became a TRL Member when I moved to Portland in 2015. Joining the club helped me form new relationships within the TRL community. I especially loved participating in group runs, running races such as Stumptown XC, and attending events like the Summer Sizzler. In 2020, I joined the TRL Board as Director of Group Runs. It was a challenging time for the group due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, we made significant updates to TRL’s policies. To ensure the safety of our members, we suspended group runs for over a year. However, there was still plenty of work for the Board to do. We develop an all-digital TRL e-newsletter shared monthly via email and Facebook. We continued to promote new runners and designed new membership shirts, singlets, and swag items. Once Covid restrictions eased up, we restarted group runs in the summer of 2021.
As a Board Member, I have worked on a wide range of initiatives, including policy-making, event planning, communications, and graphic design. This experience will prove valuable in my continued service to the club. As TRL’s President, I will celebrate diversity within our membership and encourage all types of runners of all speeds to participate in our activities. As President, I will solicit more feedback from our members regarding improvements to the group, increase TRL’s overall presence in the Portland running community, and make a meaningful difference for the future of TRL.
Please vote Garland Days for TRL President.
Vice President – Angela Lindbo
Hello, I’m Angela Lindbo, a long-time Team Red Lizard club member, and serving board member. My past board positions include Apparel Director, Secretary, and Vice President which transitioned to President when the elected President stepped down. It’s an honor to serve on the board and keep TRL an active, functioning club and fun club. I am happy to throw my name again, to do what I can, to enable our club to continue to serve you, our members, and our greater running community. It is my goal to ensure Team Red Lizard remains a diverse club welcoming all members, promoting health/wellness, and supporting all runners in reaching their training, racing, and social connectivity needs. Thank you for considering a vote for me.
Secretary – Carre Heineck
My name is Carre Heineck, and I am running for secretary. I have been running competitively since age eleven and have been a club member for over a decade. I have served as a cross country team captain, helped organize multiple trips to USATF Club Cross Country Nationals, and have recruited new club members. Most recently, I have been organizing Sunday group runs with Garland Days and Kellie Houser. I was asked to consider running for a board position, and it seemed like a great opportunity to give back to this club that has supported me over the years. As a board member, I will do my best to represent the club’s members. Your ideas will strengthen our club and by working together, we will see positive change. Thank you for your consideration.
Treasurer – Ben Flaata
As a nearly 15 year TRL member and acting Treasurer for 11 of those months, I would like to renew my offer to contribute to the club as Treasurer. The events of the last two years have challenged us all, but I believe in the importance of the running community for physical and mental health, as well as the social aspects…and sometimes it’s just fun to lace up and run fast. The TRL board plays an important role steering the direction of the club, organizing group activities, and enhancing this running community. I am confident that my professional background in accounting and treasury management lend the skills and responsibility required to perform well in the Treasurer role and help guide the organization as a whole.
