2026 Spring into Summer Series Springs into Action

TRL’s 2026 Spring into Summer Series kicks off this weekend with (what else): Shamrock. Here’s the schedule, with the caveat that it could be subject to change. It’s a mix of new events and old favorites. If enough people have a race they want added to the series (and it fits the schedule), we are open to seeing if we can squeeze it in. Scoring rules will be the same as last year.

March 15: Shamrock Run. All distances qualify. As before there will be an adjustment for course difficulty in an effort to equalize results between flatter and hiller events.

April 12. Vernonia Marathon and Half-Marathon. There has been interest in an ORRC event, and this is their largest one during the Series window. It’s a bit closer to Eugene than we’d like, but the two races tend to cater to different crowds, so we are giving this a try. This will be terrain adjusted and age-graded. The marathon relay is not included due to difficulty in figuring out how to score it.

April 25-26. Eugene Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K. Any distance. Age-graded.

May 2. Firelane Trail Trial. We’ve been trying to get a trail race in Forest Park into the series, and this is the best option we can find. 4.45 miles and 1,266 feet up…and 1,266 feet down. Not age-graded, because it’s too weird a distance.

May 16. Mary S. Young Parkrun. Age graded. Registration is free (other than a sign-up fee that was $2 last we checked). And if you’ve ever done a Parkrun anywhere else in the world, you don’t even have to pay that.

May 30. Rose Festival Street Mile (downhill). Portland is a city that very much needs a good street mile, and this is a good course for it. It’s the race’s first year, so let’s show up and make sure it comes back. This one won’t be age-graded because next up is…

June 13. Rose City Mile. Age-graded.

Unknown Date. Portland Summer Track. This is a popular (and inexpensive) set of low-key track meets suitable for all levels of ability. This year’s schedule has not yet been set, but when it is, we will pick the meet that best fits the rest of the Spring into Summer Series schedule. (Note: this means we might change the date of the Mary S. Young Parkrun, since it doesn’t require advance registration.) TBD re age-grading.

July 4. Foot Traffic Flat. This year, the race itself won’t be in the series, but you can score 60 points (and a participation point) by volunteering for at least two hours at the aid station.

July 12. Fueled by Fine Wine. Three distances, all count. We’ll figure out how to score it. This is a unique event, culminating in a wine tasting. TBD re age-grading.

DATE TBD. Rock Creek Park Run. We will schedule this around whatever happens with the Portland Summer Track series schedule and Bowerman. Age-graded.

DATE TBD. Bowerman 5K.

DATE TBD, 1-mile Strava Segment on Springwater Corridor. There will be at least a week (maybe longer) to complete this, with a group run in which many of us can do it together as the start of a longer outing with lunch, etc., afterward. Dates to be determined after we know the dates of the Bowerman 5K and the Portland Track Summer Series.
