As always, we have a smorgasbord of events coming up, some soon, some in the “save the date realm.”
• The Spring into Summer Series is nearing its finale. Three stages remain: (1) the third Portland Track Summer Series race on Thursday, July 16, at Lincoln High School; (2) Bowerman 5K, Saturday, July 25; (3) the TRL Strava Segment from mile 2.5 to 3.5 on the Springwater Corridor. The Strava segment will be open from August 8-23, with a group run including it scheduled for August 8. The group run can be extended to a long run, with lunch afterwards. Details, including more info on the Strava segment, are on the TRL Spring into Summer Series schedule.
• Spring into Summer Series results are now updated to include Flat Half volunteers and Fueled by Fine Wine. Standings are posted on the TRL website.
• The Tour de Goose will start in early August and run into early September. Details are being finalized, but expect the usual mix of zaniness, competition, hills…and, of course, cake.
• TRL has been invited to field a team at the Redmond Harvest Half Marathon in Redmond Washington, on Labor Day. We have done this before as a pleasant road trip. The race is inexpensive, AND we have a discount code. The discount code is posted on Slack, but let others know before you register because there are also various types of comped entries.
• The Summer Sizzler party is scheduled for September 13. Location TBD.
• The US House of Representatives just passed a permanent daylight savings time bill by an overwhelming majority. Assuming the Senate does the same, we may have to make changes in the start times for the final Stumptown race. We are evaluating this and waiting to see what the Senate does, but if you have preferences for a revised start time (or can show up for set-up with an industrial-strength flashlight), let us know on Slack or Facebook. Experience says that headlamps don’t cut it.
• Finally, even though we are less than halfway through summer, it’s not too early to think about Stumptown. Last year, we had a superb volunteer crew who repeatedly set the best courses we’ve ever had, in record time. Yeah, it’s early in the morning, but it’s a fun way to not only help out, but build deeper friendships. Check your calendar, and if you already know you are available, let Carre Heineck or Rick Lovett know, so we can put you on the list for later follow-up.
